How to Stay Close to Your Partner

The “special” person in your life; the one you’ve chosen to spend your life with is often one of the most important relationships that you will have outside of your family. With the daily distractions of life it can be easy to drift apart from one another.

  • Take time to talk – without the background noise. This means turn off the television and the radio. You can’t fully listen to one another when you’ve got the news or your favorite song playing in the back of your head.
  • It is so easy to always point out peoples faults. Remember to take time to point out the positive aspects of the other person. You get more with honey then you do lemons.
  • Find time to spend together. This means real, quality time. It’s not cleaning out the garage together even though this needs to be done. It’s enjoying a quiet dinner together or going to a movie together. You need time to reconnect with one another.
  • Stop bickering and nagging. When you do this it just annoys the other person and doesn’t create the result you were looking for. How else can you get your point across? Think about it.
  • Get back to dating. Just because you’ve been together  for years doesn’t mean that the spark has to diminish.  Hold hands every now and then while walking or just sitting together watching t.v.  Remember those small touches. A gentle touch, whether it’s a rub on the back in passing or a stroke on the face, can mean so much in a relationship.

Keeping a relationship alive and fresh is important if you want that relationship to last. You can’t become complacent in your relationship. You still need to nurture it in order to let it grow.
